Isis Bandele-Asante has worked with UP for Learning since 9th grade, joining originally in Fall of 2020 as a youth participant in UP’s Cultivating Pathways to Sustainability program at the Piney Woods School in Mississippi. During her nearly 7 years with UP, she moved from her participant role to intern, then to a Youth Program Specialist, and eventually a Program Associate. She was active in the Trailblazers magazine, key in planning and facilitating our Racial Justice Dialogues (RJD), a lead on the Youth Internship Program, while contributing to countless other projects.
Originally from southeastern Connecticut, she has worked with various non-profit organizations focusing on empowering Black, Brown, and LGBTQ+ youth through advocacy and lobbying. She is currently a student at Bowie State University in Maryland majoring in Philosophy, Politics, & Economics, going into her final semester, after which she hopes to go on to law school and continue her advocacy work.
She has been an integral member of the UP community, transforming the organization for the better, and we know she will continue to enact lasting change in her community wherever her journey takes her!
