Taylor is the first recipient of the Ben Williams Scholarship for Transformational Leaders. UP supports Taylor in her commitment to use her “education and experiences to make a positive difference, build strong connections, and help create second chances for those who need them most.”
Taylor attended Stafford Technical Center in Rutland, VT (her sending school was Mill River Union High School). Taylor wrote:
“Ben’s belief in “small e” education, learning that is relevant, community-driven, and rooted in real needs, strongly connects to my goals. The work I hope to do with incarcerated youth reflects that idea by meeting individuals where they are and helping them learn skills that truly matter in their lives. I want to be someone who not only teaches but also learns from the experiences and perspectives of those I work with…Like Ben, I want to give my full attention to others and create an environment where growth and learning are possible.”
UP for Learning wishes Taylor the best as she transitions to University of Vermont this fall, majoring in psychological science with a minor in human development.
