Mea Ree Jan first became involved with UP in the summer of 2021 as a member of Winooski School District’s Anti-Racism Steering Committee (ARSC). She later joined UP as an intern and eventually transitioned into her role as a Youth Program Specialist. During this time she continued her involvement with the ARSC, stepping into a leadership role, planned and facilitated the Racial Justice Dialogues (RJD), and supported Restorative Practices (RP) programming.
Mea Ree attended Winooski High School, during which time she was a finalist for the 2024 John Lewis Youth Leadership Award (Mea Ree is center above) and an active advocate for immigration policy and education reform in her community. She graduated in 2025 and is currently pursuing an Associates Degree in health at the Community College of Vermont. She will transfer to the University of Vermont this fall.
Mea Ree’s thoughtful, honest, and passionate nature have been evident in every aspect of her involvement with UP as a youth leader and facilitator. We look forward to seeing how she continues to foster joy and create meaningful opportunities for young people in her community.
