This is a remarkable era of education redesign in Vermont. With the advent of Act 77: Flexible Pathways and new Education Quality Standards, there are unprecedented opportunities for youth to partner with adults as messengers and co-creators of school change.
The current vision for education in Vermont will require students to assume a far more active role in their learning; it will fundamentally reshape the student-teacher relationship to one of shared responsibility and partnership.
Register a youth-adult team for this summit if you would like answers to these questions:
- What does it look and sound like when young people partner with adults as they shape their educational experience?
- How can we learn from other schools engaged in similar work to elevate student voice?
- What are our next steps to address the youth-adult relationship in our school, ensuring that both power and responsibility in learning and education are shared?
Come be part of a highly interactive day designed to promote dialogue, choice, creativity and networking. This conference is for
high school students, teachers, administrators, school board members, or other individuals partnering in school change efforts.
An overview of the day:
What will the day include? Take part in the morning interactive Sharing Sessions to redefine the realm of possibility. You will be informed and inspired by stories of schools around Vermont where young people have been partnering with adults to shape all aspects of their schools – classroom learning, behavior management, innovative governance structures, continuous improvement efforts and more. Following a networking lunch, participants are invited to receive feedback on a dilemma they chosen to share, or to join a workshop or table discussion to explore the means to be part of current Vermont change efforts. The day will be bookended with all participants contributing to crafting a collective vision of how we can fully mobilize both youth and adults, harnessing power2 to create the schools of tomorrow…today!
Space is limited to 125 participants; registration will be on a first come, first serve basis. Maximum team size is 8. Cost: $25 per adult; $15 per student (scholarships available upon request). The Summit flyer will be available March 9. Email [email protected] if you would like a flyer sent directly to you at that time.
