Middle School Transition

Youth and Adult Middle School Transition Team: UP for Learning will collaborate and co-facilitate three retreats
for the 5th grade classes and relevant adults (teachers, staff, and administrators), with the goal of supporting
a meaningful and successful transition to 6th grade through:

• Exploring students’ identities as learners and leaders within their class and within the school.
• Bringing youth and adults together in dialogue to share hopes and concerns about 6th grade.
• Collecting and exploring data (from students and parents / caregivers) about the hopes and concerns people have related to 6th grade and school in general.
• Collaborating to develop a shared vision of 6th grade
• Supporting students in building self-advocacy, leadership skills, and strong relationships
  Planning and hosting a family dialogue night for the parents of next year’s 6th grade students.
