Power 2 Summit: Youth and Adults Shaping Vermont Education Together
May 1, 2018 @ Lake Morey Resort

The critical importance of Youth-adult partnership in transforming educational efforts is the focus of this energizing gathering. We will explore the role youth-adult partnership is playing in successfully shaping learning and educational experiences.

Flexible Pathways and the Education Quality Standards have created unprecedented opportunities for youth to partner with adults as messengers and co-creators of school change. The current vision for education in Vermont requires students to assume a far more active role in their learning; it fundamentally reshape the student-teacher relationship to one of shared responsibility and partnership.

Come be part of a highly interactive day designed to promote dialogue, choice, creativity and networking. This conference is for high school students, teachers, administrators, school board members, and other individuals partnering in school change efforts.

Space is limited to 125 participants; registration will be on a first come, first serve basis. Maximum team size is 8. Cost: $25 per adult; $15 per student The summit flyer with workshop descriptions and registration information will be available in March.

Consider bringing a youth-adult team to the P2 Summit if you would like to explore:

  • What does it look and sound like when young people partner with adults as they shape their educational experience?
  • How can we learn from other schools engaged in similar work to elevate student voice?
  • What are our next steps to address the youth-adult relationship in our school, ensuring that both power and responsibility in learning and education are shared?
  • P2 is a collaborative effort of UP for Learning, with support from the Bay & Paul Foundations. Registration information will be coming soon!

The student-led faculty meeting was unlike anything I have ever seen in terms of students and teachers holding a discussion about a topic as sensitive as their teaching methods. I heard from a lot of teachers in the “go-around” that they were awestruck about what had just happened.
